What your candidates say about empty homes

You'll be voting on 3 May in Ladywell ward, where you have 13 candidates to choose from.

We emailed candidates to ask: If elected, will you vote to double council tax on empty homes in Lewisham Borough Council, and work to end the scandal of properties being left empty? Here's what they said.

Rebecca Manson Jones, Women's Equality Party

Their comments: Lewisham is undergoing a significant amount of development to create new homes but many of these are standing empty. Much needed housing is bought as investment stock whilst families - often women and children - are left to subsist in unsafe and substandard temporary accommodation. The promised new neighbourhoods are not emerging because the buildings lack people. As your Councillor I will insist that we put pressure on landlords to be responsible and considerate neighbours. Lewisham is for people and families to live in and enjoy not a token on the monopoly board.
